Michael J. Doherty

Actor | Model- NYC

Céad Míle Fáilte! My name is Michael J. Doherty and I am a SAG-AFTRA Eligible Actor based in Brooklyn, NY and born in Queens, NY.

My roots trace back to Ireland (dad’s parents) and Czech Republic (mom’s parents) from where my grandparents immigrated. I believe we all have a story to share with the world, and some of us express it through acting like yours truly. What I truly love about acting, which is pretty cliche but I’ll say it anyway, is that we are able to experience different facets of our selves through the various characters we portray. It widens our perspective on the world when we’re able to put our feet into the shoes of another.

I first caught the notorious “acting bug” during my school years. I worked on a couple plays in middle school and during the summer leading into high school. I even took an Irish Acting Class back in middle school with my dad in Long Island City. That class drove me towards my passion as I found an agent when I was 12 or 13.

I met Susan Wright of Ann Wright Representatives who took a chance on a young kid with a dream. However, as I grew up my other loves of soccer and baseball took my attention along with my studies as I always thought I’d end up being a radiologist or anesthesiologist (more “practical careers” some might say.) At the end of my high school senior year, I did return to the stage in “Legally Blonde: The Musical” as the UPS Guy.

During my time at Union College, I was an Environmental Science Major/Bioengineering minor on the pre-med track and again acting took a back seat. It wasn’t until the end of my Junior year when I returned from my study abroad in Prague that I returned to acting. I vividly remember seeing a poster for “Romeo & Juliet” set in a Mad Max world in the Theater Department and that persistent “Acting Bug” bit me again. Well, to make a long story short, I ended up auditioning for “Romeo & Juliet” and was casted as Gregory. I then performed in two other plays that year at my alma mater: “The Laramie Project” as Stephen Belber (& 7 other roles), and The Learned Ladies as Trissotin.

Since I graduated from Union College, I have taken 12 classes at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting and trained in Adler Technique, voice, movement, scene study, and acting for film. I’ve also worked on various projects ranging from short films to music videos to a couple of Indie feature films, to sketch comedy shows with A Sketch of New York in Times Square at The Producers Club. My latest film, “Goodnight, Light” which filmed in West Virginia, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Tubi, and Roku. The other indie feature film that I worked on, “Carry The Darkness,” is currently making the rounds in the festival circuit. My dream is to star in a film that premieres at Sundance one day soon. More recently, I will be performing as the lead actor in an upcoming off-off broadway original play. I’ll play the lead actor, Travis, in “Before The Flood.” It will be my second time collaborating with the playwright, Vince Goodman.

Thank you for reading a little about meI look forward to connecting with you. Sláinte, Michael J.
